HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 2014-2015 State officers
4of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA);
5and
6 WHEREAS, The FCCLA is an organization built as an
7accompaniment to the curriculum of Family and Consumer Sciences
8education in public and private schools through grade 12 and
9strives to prepare students to be productive family members,
10wage earners, and community leaders; the organization began in
111945 as the Future Homemakers of America with the family as its
12central focus and remains today the only in-school student
13organization with that focus; and
14 WHEREAS, In order to be selected as a FCCLA State officer,
15students must run for election; students run by announcing
16their intent in their local high school chapter; they present a
17speech at the Section level in order to receive a vote of
18confidence and then fill out an application resume; they then
19present a speech and answer questions before the voting
20delegates and audience gathered at the State conference; from
21the pool of candidates, 7 are elected by majority vote to serve
22as the State Executive Council for the next school year; those
23students are then brought together for a 3-day training seminar

1in which they get to know each other and learn how to work
2together; at the training, the candidates give another speech
3and are interviewed by a panel of alumni; following that, each
4officer and each of the panel members vote as to which officer
5will hold which office within the organization; and
6 WHEREAS, Once the officers are assigned, they work together
7the entire year planning and carrying out the various
8responsibilities of FCCLA as well as their specific office; the
9students learn many essential skills throughout the year and
10the FCCLA provides many opportunities for students to take on
11leadership roles and display their abilities; and
12 WHEREAS, The 2014-2015 FCCLA State Officers are Lauren
13Becherer from Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect; Clayton
14Lindley from Mount Pulaski High School in Mount Pulaski; Tarryn
15Gardner from Knoxville High School in Knoxville; Emily Grebner
16from Kewanee High School in Kewanee; Katie Spring from
17R.O.W.V.A. High School in Oneida; Olivia Hanzel from Liberty
18High School in Liberty; and Courtney Pogue from Cisne High
19School in Cisne; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we recognize the 2014-2015 State officers of the Family, Career
23and Community Leaders of America; and be it further
