| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert | ||||||
4 | "Bobby" Rockymore, who passed away on November 11, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore was born in Atlanta, Georgia on | ||||||
6 | July 4, 1936; he and his family moved to Detroit and then to | ||||||
7 | Chicago in 1951; he attended Forestville Grammar School and | ||||||
8 | then Tilden High School; he transferred to Hyde Park High | ||||||
9 | School, where he played baseball and basketball; he organized | ||||||
10 | the Comets in 1956, which consisted of youth from the | ||||||
11 | Kenwood/Oakwood Neighborhoods; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Bobby | ||||||
13 | Rockymore worked at Spiegel's and continued coaching the | ||||||
14 | Comets; in 1957, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and became a | ||||||
15 | member of the Post Basketball Team, travelling throughout the | ||||||
16 | southwest; he was honorably discharged in 1959; and

17 | WHEREAS, Once he returned from the Army, Bobby Rockymore | ||||||
18 | organized the Comets at the South Shore YMCA; he began working | ||||||
19 | with Youth Action and continued at Spiegel's; the Comets took | ||||||
20 | off in the 1960s and started winning championship games and | ||||||
21 | traveled all over the State; and

1 | WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore married Beverly, his best friend | ||||||
2 | and the love of his life, on September 30, 1968; they worked | ||||||
3 | together to support Bobby's players and opened their home for a | ||||||
4 | meal or a place to stay when needed; in later years, they | ||||||
5 | enjoyed traveling together; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
7 | Michael; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore is survived by his wife, Beverly; | ||||||
9 | his children, Adrian (Larry) Rucker and Robert Rockymore Jr.; | ||||||
10 | his granddaughter, Beverly (Damian); his great-granddaughter, | ||||||
11 | Danielle; his siblings, Lionel, Michael, Mark, Shirley, | ||||||
12 | Yvonne, Francine, and Bonnie; and his many friends in the | ||||||
13 | basketball community and other organizations; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
15 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | mourn the passing of Robert "Bobby" Rockymore and extend our | ||||||
17 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
18 | and loved him; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Bobby Rockymore as an expression of | ||||||
21 | our deepest sympathy.
