HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
"Bobby" Rockymore, who passed away on November 11, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore was born in Atlanta, Georgia on
July 4, 1936; he and his family moved to Detroit and then to
Chicago in 1951; he attended Forestville Grammar School and
then Tilden High School; he transferred to Hyde Park High
School, where he played baseball and basketball; he organized
the Comets in 1956, which consisted of youth from the
Kenwood/Oakwood Neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Bobby
Rockymore worked at Spiegel's and continued coaching the
Comets; in 1957, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and became a
member of the Post Basketball Team, travelling throughout the
southwest; he was honorably discharged in 1959; and
WHEREAS, Once he returned from the Army, Bobby Rockymore
organized the Comets at the South Shore YMCA; he began working
with Youth Action and continued at Spiegel's; the Comets took
off in the 1960s and started winning championship games and
traveled all over the State; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore married Beverly, his best friend
and the love of his life, on September 30, 1968; they worked
together to support Bobby's players and opened their home for a
meal or a place to stay when needed; in later years, they
enjoyed traveling together; and
WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore was preceded in death by his son,
Michael; and
WHEREAS, Bobby Rockymore is survived by his wife, Beverly;
his children, Adrian (Larry) Rucker and Robert Rockymore Jr.;
his granddaughter, Beverly (Damian); his great-granddaughter,
Danielle; his siblings, Lionel, Michael, Mark, Shirley,
Yvonne, Francine, and Bonnie; and his many friends in the
basketball community and other organizations; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn the passing of Robert "Bobby" Rockymore and extend our
sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Bobby Rockymore as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
