2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend | ||||||
4 | Marcethia Lynette Scales, who passed away on May 13, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was born in Chicago to Marcel | ||||||
6 | Martin and Margaret Peterson on May 2, 1961; early in life, she | ||||||
7 | taught herself how to play the piano and keyboard, and she | ||||||
8 | committed to her faith at the First Baptist Church in Melrose | ||||||
9 | Park under the leadership of the Reverend Henry McNelty; she | ||||||
10 | graduated from John Marshall High School and then pursued a | ||||||
11 | degree in mathematics at the Florida Institute of Technology; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was employed at the McDonald | ||||||
14 | Corporation in Oakbrook for many years; she later moved on to | ||||||
15 | Hendrickson Bumper & Steel, a Bohler Company, in Joliet, where | ||||||
16 | she was a devoted and enthusiastic employee; and

17 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales joined the Christian Unity | ||||||
18 | Missionary Baptist Church (CUC) in Bellwood under the | ||||||
19 | leadership of Pastor Willie B. Dugan in 1993; she was ordained | ||||||
20 | as a minister of the Gospel on October 24, 2001; with her | ||||||
21 | strong passion to serve at her home church, she taught Sunday | ||||||
22 | School, was a member of the Ministerial staff, a prayer |

1 | warrior, and president of the choir, as well as part of the | ||||||
2 | King Daughters Ministry, and the Shepherd's Ministry; through | ||||||
3 | her sermons, prayers, and songs, she uplifted many spirits and | ||||||
4 | led many closer to their faith; she never hesitated to go | ||||||
5 | beyond the call of duty to serve and assist whenever and | ||||||
6 | wherever she could; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was awarded the King Daughters | ||||||
8 | Remarkable Woman Award in 2017; she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, | ||||||
9 | and spending time with her family; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | grandparents, Isaac and Lucille Underwood; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Reverend Scales is survived by her mother, | ||||||
13 | Margaret Holmes; her son, James Sean Scales; her sisters, | ||||||
14 | Rosalind Holder, Eva (Darryl) Holder, and Jimmette (Robbie) | ||||||
15 | Barkley; her special friend, Brandon Barker; her CUC family; | ||||||
16 | and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, | ||||||
17 | cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
19 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | mourn the passing of Reverend Marcethia Lynette Scales and | ||||||
21 | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all | ||||||
22 | who knew and loved her; and be it further
