HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Karen J. Nichols on
4 the occasion of her inauguration as President of the American
5 Osteopathic Association in Chicago; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Nichols will be the first woman to serve as
7 national President of the American Osteopathic Association
8 since its creation 113 years ago; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Nichols is a past president of the American
10 College of Osteopathic Internists and the Arizona Osteopathic
11 Medical Association; she has also served as a trustee of the
12 American Osteopathic Association for many years; and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Nichols has served as the Dean of the Chicago
14 College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University since
15 2002; she collaborates with her fellow deans of medical schools
16 both in the State of Illinois and across the nation; and
17 WHEREAS, As Dean of the Chicago College of Osteopathic
18 Medicine of Midwestern University, Dr. Nichols has focused
19 greatly on increasing student, faculty, and alumni involvement
20 in specialty and state medical societies, such as the Illinois
21 Osteopathic Medical Society, who named her recipient of their

1 highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, in 2003; and
2 WHEREAS, Dr. Nichols has personally escorted busloads of
3 Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine students to
4 Springfield for Osteopathic Physicians Days at the Illinois
5 State Capitol; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Nichols' work as a Health Policy Fellow and as
7 a national leader for the osteopathic medical profession has
8 reinforced her understanding of the importance of physician
9 legislative advocacy; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Karen J. Nichols on being elected by her peers as
13 the President of the American Osteopathic Association and wish
14 her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
15 further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Dr. Karen Nichols as a symbol of our esteem and
18 respect.
