2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate June Gecan on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her 90th birthday; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, June Gecan is a longtime resident of Chicago's | ||||||
6 | South Shore neighborhood; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, June Gecan and her loving husband of over 50 | ||||||
8 | years, Tony, began raising their family of four children, | ||||||
9 | Anton, Nicholas, Pamela, and Christine, in the historic St. | ||||||
10 | Brides Parish; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, June Gecan was active in the St. Brides Mothers | ||||||
12 | Club, ensuring that the vaunted football and basketball | ||||||
13 | programs were properly outfitted; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, June Gecan was one of many mothers in the | ||||||
15 | neighborhood that were prominent in the daily lives of the | ||||||
16 | numerous children that grew up on and around 74th Street; she | ||||||
17 | often prepared tasty lunches, snacks, or dinners for the many | ||||||
18 | guests of the Gecan children; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, June Gecan was often called upon to intervene in | ||||||
20 | disputes with an overzealous janitor in Greek, in which she was |

2 | WHEREAS, June Gecan was a fixture at the Beach and Tennis | ||||||
3 | Club and was a member of the South Shore Country Club; she also | ||||||
4 | participated in the annual B&T Follies; and

5 | WHEREAS, In 1969, June Gecan served as president of the | ||||||
6 | Aquinas Dominican Parents Teachers Association; when her | ||||||
7 | children were older, she joined the workforce and garnered an | ||||||
8 | impressive resume in law enforcement and criminal justice; from | ||||||
9 | 1971 to 1986, she was employed by the United States Secret | ||||||
10 | Service and the U.S. Marshals Service and helped to protect 3 | ||||||
11 | Presidents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 1986, June Gecan retired and moved from her | ||||||
13 | Beverly neighborhood to Lombard, where she has lived for the | ||||||
14 | last 18 years; she is an avid bridge player, accomplished cook, | ||||||
15 | and loving grandmother of 5; at the age of 90, she is still | ||||||
16 | cooking, paying her bills, and maintaining her condo - she is a | ||||||
17 | true model of the independent senior; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, June Gecan is a dedicated sports fan and | ||||||
19 | passionate follower of the Chicago Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, | ||||||
20 | and White Sox; she is also admired for her enthusiasm, service | ||||||
21 | to country, love of life, sense of humor, and devotion to her | ||||||
22 | family and many friends; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we congratulate June Gecan on the occasion of her 90th birthday | ||||||
4 | and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it | ||||||
5 | further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
