2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Vernon O. | ||||||
4 | Crawley on the occasion of his retirement as President of | ||||||
5 | Moraine Valley Community College; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Vernon Crawley earned his bachelor's degree from | ||||||
7 | Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia; he | ||||||
8 | subsequently earned his master's degree from the University of | ||||||
9 | Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and his doctorate from | ||||||
10 | Pennsylvania State University in University Park, | ||||||
11 | Pennsylvania; he also studied at the College of William and | ||||||
12 | Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and American University in | ||||||
13 | Washington, D.C.; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Since 1991, Vernon Crawley has served as President | ||||||
15 | of Moraine Valley Community College, a comprehensive community | ||||||
16 | college located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago which | ||||||
17 | serves over 46,000 students annually; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Prior to his tenure as President of Moraine Valley | ||||||
19 | Community College, Vernon Crawley served as President of St. | ||||||
20 | Louis Community College at Forest Park for 13 years and as an | ||||||
21 | academic dean at Mercer County Community College in Trenton, | ||||||
22 | New Jersey; he also served in administrative and teaching |

1 | positions at Dundalk Community College in Baltimore, Maryland, | ||||||
2 | Pennsylvania State University, Morgan State University in | ||||||
3 | Baltimore, Maryland, and Ruthville High School in Charles City, | ||||||
4 | Virginia; and

5 | WHEREAS, Vernon Crawley served as an administrative | ||||||
6 | specialist in science for the National Aeronautics and Space | ||||||
7 | Administration in Washington, D.C., developing educational | ||||||
8 | materials from space program findings; he also worked as a | ||||||
9 | chemist at Stuart Products Company in Richmond, Virginia; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Vernon Crawley serves as a board member on several | ||||||
11 | national organizations, including the League for Innovation | ||||||
12 | and Community Colleges for International Development, and on | ||||||
13 | several local organizations in the Chicago area, including the | ||||||
14 | Workforce Investment Board for Cook County, the Economic | ||||||
15 | Development Corporation for the Southwest Suburbs, and the | ||||||
16 | National Louis University Community College Leadership | ||||||
17 | Presidents Advisory Council; he is also a member of the Oak | ||||||
18 | Lawn Rotary Club; and

19 | WHEREAS, Vernon Crawley served as a consultant/evaluator | ||||||
20 | for the North Central Association, a regional accrediting | ||||||
21 | agency, for over 25 years; he has served on the NCA Review | ||||||
22 | Committee and the Institutional Actions Council; he served on | ||||||
23 | American Council on Education's Commission on Minorities in |

1 | Higher Education and was a member of the National Advisory | ||||||
2 | Group, Expanding Leadership Opportunities for Minorities in | ||||||
3 | Community Colleges; he has served on the boards of the Council | ||||||
4 | on Higher Education Accreditation, the American Council on | ||||||
5 | Education, the President's Round Table, the National Council on | ||||||
6 | Black American Affairs, and the Walt Disney World College | ||||||
7 | Advisory Committee; he also served a 3-year term on the board | ||||||
8 | of the American Association of Community Colleges; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Vernon Crawley has been the recipient of numerous | ||||||
10 | honors and awards, including the 2009 ACCT national Marie Y. | ||||||
11 | Martin CEO Award, the 2009 ACCT Central Region CEO Award, the | ||||||
12 | Pacesetter Award from the National Council on Marketing and | ||||||
13 | Public Relations, the Outstanding Leadership Award from the | ||||||
14 | National Council on Black American Affairs, the Leadership | ||||||
15 | Award from the National Council of Learning Resources, the | ||||||
16 | Distinguished Scientist Award from Project SUCCESS/Charles | ||||||
17 | City County Public Schools, and most recently, the Eugene | ||||||
18 | Simpson Community Leadership Award from the Palos Area Chamber | ||||||
19 | of Commerce and the 2012 Phi Theta Kappa Michael Bennett | ||||||
20 | Lifetime Achievement Award; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
23 | we congratulate Dr. Vernon O. Crawley on the occasion of his | ||||||
24 | retirement, thank him for his many years of dedicated service |

1 | to the people of the State of Illinois, and wish him many happy | ||||||
2 | and healthy retirement years; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to Vernon Crawley as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
