1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The family, serving as the primary source of love, | ||||||
3 | identity, self-esteem, and support, is the very foundation of | ||||||
4 | our communities and our State; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, In Illinois, there are 15,000 children and youth | ||||||
6 | in foster care being provided with a safe, secure, and stable | ||||||
7 | home along with the compassion and nurture of a foster family; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Foster families, who open their homes and hearts | ||||||
10 | and offer help to children whose families are in crisis, play a | ||||||
11 | vital role helping children and families heal and reconnect and | ||||||
12 | launching children into successful adulthood; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster | ||||||
14 | children, resulting in a greater need for more foster families; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, There are numerous individuals and public and | ||||||
17 | private organizations who work to increase public awareness of | ||||||
18 | the needs of children in and leaving foster care as well as the | ||||||
19 | enduring and valuable contribution of foster parents; and

20 | WHEREAS, The foster care "system" is only as good as those |

1 | who choose to be a part of it; therefore, be it

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we proclaim May as Foster Care Month in the State of Illinois | ||||||
5 | and urge all citizens to come forward and do something positive | ||||||
6 | that will help change a lifetime for children and youth in | ||||||
7 | foster care.
