HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague, State
4Representative and Assistant Minority Leader Deanne Marie
5Mazzochi, on her distinguished service to the people of the
647th District and the State of Illinois; and
7 WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi has faithfully served the citizens
8of the 47th District since assuming office in July 2018; and
9 WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi is a lifelong Illinois resident;
10she was born and raised in Villa Park and graduated from
11Willowbrook High School; she pursued degrees in Political
12Science and Chemistry at Boston University and then a law
13degree from George Washington University; she and her husband
14have raised their family in Elmhurst for more than 15 years;
15and
16 WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi was a founding partner of her firm,
17specializing in life sciences law, particularly patent
18litigation in the medical and pharmaceutical arena so that
19cheaper, generic drugs can be made readily available to the
20public; and
21 WHEREAS, While continuing her success in the private

1sector, Rep. Mazzochi entered the public arena out of concern
2for the ongoing corruption and bad governance she witnessed in
3her community and throughout Illinois; she served as a trustee
4of the College of DuPage Board of Trustees from April 2015
5until she was elected chairman of the board in 2016; she
6spearheaded efforts to strengthen the relationships between
7the institution and the communities it serves, creating
8increased economic development partnerships and developing a
9wide array of vital academic opportunities; she supported
10efforts to reduce financial burdens to students and local
11taxpayers and championed tuition and fee cuts as well as
12property tax freezes with no impact on students and community
13services; and
14 WHEREAS, Prior to Rep. Mazzochi's election as chairman,
15the College of DuPage was put on probation by the Higher
16Learning Commission over concerns about its integrity and
17governance; after her election, she immediately set to work on
18reevaluating the board and the college's administrative
19policies to promote transparency and right a dysfunctional
20ship; and
21 WHEREAS, After resigning from the board to serve in the
22Illinois State Legislature, Rep. Mazzochi was praised and
23thanked by the president of the College of DuPage for her
24dedicated service and exemplary leadership during a difficult

1phase in the institution's history; and
2 WHEREAS, While in office, Rep. Mazzochi brought her law
3and science background with her to Springfield, using those
4legal skills in her role as a fearless and passionate floor
5debate leader; while seeking effective and efficient
6government, she fought for legislative accountability and
7transparency, due process, public safety, education, and
8stronger ethics in Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, In recognition of her hard work and leadership,
10Rep. Mazzochi was appointed to numerous task forces, including
11the Property Tax Relief Task Force as co-chair and a Special
12Investigating Committee looking into corruption allegations
13against then-House Speaker Mike Madigan; she also served as
14Republican Spokesperson for the House Judiciary and Housing
15Committees and Assistant Minority Leader at the start of the
16102nd General Assembly; and
17 WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi received numerous accolades for her
18work in Springfield, including Elected Official of the Year by
19Safe Suburbs USA, a Friend of Infrastructure by the
20Transportation for Illinois Coalition, Champion of Free
21Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, a Friend of
22Agriculture by the Illinois Farm Bureau, Champion of
23Manufacturing by the Illinois Manufacturers' Association, and

1Champion of Small and Mid-Size Manufacturers Award by the
2Technology and Manufacturing Association; and
3 WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi was always responsive to the needs
4and concerns of her district, especially in her work to curb
5the excesses of Sterigenics, corrupt red light cameras, and 5G
6tower proliferation; and
7 WHEREAS, While in office, Rep. Mazzochi and her staff
8determinedly sought to bring information and services to her
9constituents, hosting dozens of informative events, both
10online and in person during her tenure; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we thank State Representative and Assistant Minority Leader
14Deanne Marie Mazzochi for her years of dedicated service to
15the 47th District and the State of Illinois; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Rep. Mazzochi as an expression of our esteem and
18respect.
