| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, On September 13, 2017, the National Hurricane
| ||||||
3 | Center began tracking a tropical wave that ultimately became
| ||||||
4 | Hurricane Maria; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Hurricane Maria became the tenth most intense
| ||||||
6 | Atlantic hurricane on record and the most intense tropical
| ||||||
7 | storm of the 2017 season; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria made
| ||||||
9 | landfall in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm with sustained
| ||||||
10 | wind speeds of 155 miles per hour; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and the U.S.
| ||||||
12 | Virgin Islands just 14 days after Hurricane Irma did; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, All of the 3.5 million residents of Puerto Rico | ||||||
14 | lost
power following Hurricanes Irma and Maria; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In the nearly seven months since Hurricane Maria
| ||||||
16 | made landfall in Puerto Rico, more than 40,000 people are
still | ||||||
17 | without electricity; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Puerto Rico is experiencing the longest blackout
| ||||||
19 | in U.S. history and second-longest in world history, measured
|

| |||||||
1 | in customer hours of lost electricity service; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, 146 ComEd employees went voluntarily to Puerto
| ||||||
3 | Rico to assist the local utility in restoring power; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The employees who went to Puerto Rico faced
| ||||||
5 | unfamiliar and treacherous terrain on the island's mountains
| ||||||
6 | and in its rainforests; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, These employees, along with utility workers from
| ||||||
8 | the five other Exelon utilities, installed 376 poles, 267
| ||||||
9 | transformers, and more than 108 miles of cable; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Through these employees' hard work over 50 days
on | ||||||
11 | the island, more than 11,000 customers in affected areas
had | ||||||
12 | their power restored; therefore, be it
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | recognize the humanitarian efforts of the men and women of | ||||||
16 | ComEd who volunteered to help restore electricity to the Island | ||||||
17 | of Puerto Rico, known affectionately as La Isla del Encanto; | ||||||
18 | and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
20 | presented to the ComEd Operations Team leads for their
service |
