HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate former Illinois State
4University (ISU) football legend and NFL standout James Harvey
5"Boomer" Grigsby on the occasion of being selected for
6induction into the College Football Hall of Fame; and
7 WHEREAS, A three-time First Team All-American in 2002,
82003, and 2004, Boomer Grigsby remains the Football
9Championship Subdivision (FCS) leader in career tackles with
10550, career solo tackles with 325, single-season tackles per
11game with 16.27 in 2002, and single-season solo tackles per
12game with 9.82 in 2002; and
13 WHEREAS, As a standout linebacker, Boomer Grigsby is the
14only player in history to finish in the top three for the Buck
15Buchanan Award in three consecutive seasons; he ranks second
16all-time in FCS history with 12.5 tackles per game during his
17career and boasts two of the top three single-season solo
18tackle performances in FCS history with 108 in 2002 and 109 in
192003; and
20 WHEREAS, Boomer Grigsby won the College Sporting News FCS
21Defensive Player of the Year award twice, and the award has
22since been renamed in his honor; and

1 WHEREAS, The only three-time Missouri Valley Football
2Conference (MVFC) Defensive Player of the Year in league
3history, Boomer Grigsby was a three-time First Team All-MVFC
4selection and remains the all-time leading tackler in
5conference and school history, being credited by both the MVFC
6and ISU with 580 career tackles; and
7 WHEREAS, Boomer Grigsby was an honorable mention
8all-conference selection when he was named to the MVFC
9All-Newcomer Team in 2001; he led the FCS in tackles in 2002,
10led the conference in tackles three times, and led ISU in
11tackles all four seasons; a three-time team captain, he was
12also twice named the ISU Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the
13Year and was inducted into the ISU Athletics Percy Family Hall
14of Fame in 2010; and
15 WHEREAS, Boomer Grigsby was a fifth-round pick in the 2005
16NFL Draft; he played in the league for the Kansas City Chiefs
17from 2005 to 2007, the Miami Dolphins in 2008, and the Houston
18Texans in 2009; and
19 WHEREAS, Off the field, Boomer Grigsby established the
20Boomer Grigsby Foundation, and he has volunteered with Jared
21Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors and the Special Olympics;
22and

1 WHEREAS, Boomer Grigsby continued his relationship with
2ISU football as the color analyst for Redbird football
3broadcasts on NBC Sports Chicago for three seasons; he also
4served as a television analyst for the Illinois High School
5Association's football playoff broadcasts for two years; and
6 WHEREAS, Boomer Grigsby and the rest of the 2022 class are
7among only 1,056 players and 226 coaches to have been inducted
8into the College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.62
9million individuals who have played or coached; therefore, be
10it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate James Harvey "Boomer" Grigsby on being
14inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and for his
15accomplishments both on and off the field, and we wish him the
16best in his future endeavors; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Boomer Grigsby as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
