| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize Diabetes Awareness Day in | ||||||
| 4 | the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Diabetes is a serious chronic disease that poses | ||||||
| 6 | a major health problem; individuals with the disease are at an | ||||||
| 7 | increased risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney | ||||||
| 8 | failure, dental disease, and lower extremity amputations; the | ||||||
| 9 | disease and its complications occur among all age, racial, and | ||||||
| 10 | ethnic groups; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, According to the Illinois Department of Health, | ||||||
| 12 | diabetes affects 1.3 million people in the State of Illinois; | ||||||
| 13 | this number does not take into consideration those with the | ||||||
| 14 | disease who remain undetected and left untreated; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Bill HB5003, designating November 14 of each year | ||||||
| 16 | as Diabetes Awareness Day, was signed into law in Illinois on | ||||||
| 17 | July 17, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Diabetes Awareness Day was established to help | ||||||
| 19 | raise awareness and educate people about this disease that | ||||||
| 20 | affects so many in our community; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Diabetes ultimately affects us all, from | ||||||
| 2 | sufferers to their families, caregivers, friends, communities, | ||||||
| 3 | and medical providers; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Only through working together to bring increased | ||||||
| 5 | education and awareness to our local communities can further | ||||||
| 6 | diabetes awareness and action occur; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 9 | we recognize Diabetes Awareness in the State of Illinois on | ||||||
| 10 | November 14, 2022; and be it further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That we encourage local governments to also join | ||||||
| 12 | the effort to increase awareness of the disease and recognize | ||||||
| 13 | Diabetes Awareness Day in the State of Illinois.
