Bill Title: Congratulates the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery on its 75th anniversary. Commends its efforts in joining National Wreaths Across America Day and for providing the veterans buried on its hallowed grounds an honored final resting place. Thanks the Stanford family, the staff, and volunteers who work to maintain the cemetery.

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Stanford family and | ||||||
| 4 | the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery on the occasion of | ||||||
| 5 | its 75th anniversary, marked in April 2022; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Stanford family and the staff and volunteers | ||||||
| 7 | of Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery work extraordinarily | ||||||
| 8 | hard to patriotically provide the veterans buried there an | ||||||
| 9 | honorable place to rest in peace; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Each year, The Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens | ||||||
| 11 | Cemetery, located at 6449 East Illinois Highway 15, has | ||||||
| 12 | celebrated and honored the veterans buried there by placing | ||||||
| 13 | small flags on each veteran's grave on Veterans Day and by | ||||||
| 14 | erecting flags and crosses with the names of the deceased | ||||||
| 15 | veterans on Memorial Day; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery will | ||||||
| 17 | also be participating in its fourth annual National Wreaths | ||||||
| 18 | Across America Day, a nationwide movement that aims to cover | ||||||
| 19 | all veterans' grave markers with a wreath; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The National Wreaths Across America Day has been | ||||||
| 21 | observed annually on the second Saturday in December for the | ||||||

| 1 | last 28 years; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery's goal | ||||||
| 3 | for 2022 is to cover every veteran's gravestone with a | ||||||
| 4 | memorial wreath; in the last two years, wreaths were placed on | ||||||
| 5 | every veteran's grave; in the first year, 350 wreaths were | ||||||
| 6 | placed; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, To reach its goal, the Mount Vernon Memorial | ||||||
| 8 | Gardens Cemetery is taking donations from individuals and | ||||||
| 9 | charity groups to honor its yearly commitment to National | ||||||
| 10 | Wreaths Across America; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we congratulate the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery on | ||||||
| 14 | its 75th anniversary, and we commend it for its efforts in | ||||||
| 15 | joining National Wreaths Across America Day and for providing | ||||||
| 16 | the veterans buried on its hallowed grounds an honored final | ||||||
| 17 | resting place; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That we thank Eugene and Cathy Stanford, their | ||||||
| 19 | daughter, U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Samantha | ||||||
| 20 | Stanford, and all the staff and volunteers who work to | ||||||
| 21 | maintain the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery; and be it | ||||||
