2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri
on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his 94th birthday on November 24, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri
was born in Chicago on November 24, | ||||||
6 | 1926; he was raised on the South Side of Chicago
and lived many | ||||||
7 | years in the Roseland neighborhood; he graduated from Fenger | ||||||
8 | High School in Chicago and enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marine | ||||||
9 | in 1944; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri served with the Merchant Marine from | ||||||
11 | 1944 to 1946; he served as a coal passer on Liberty ships built | ||||||
12 | in the Chicago shipyards; his ship carried food and equipment | ||||||
13 | to England; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri married Shelby Jean in 1958; | ||||||
15 | together, they had three children, Sharon, Laura, and David, | ||||||
16 | who gave them nine grandchildren, Robin, Ben, Sarah, Matt, | ||||||
17 | Anne, David Jr., Cody, Hailey, and Samantha; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri trained as a tool and die maker and | ||||||
19 | worked at Pullman Standard in Chicago; he worked at Kensington | ||||||
20 | Steel in Chicago as a tool and die maker and then for over 30 | ||||||
21 | years as a machine scheduler for Acme Steel/Interlake Steel in |

1 | Riverdale; after retirement, he worked for another 25 years as | ||||||
2 | a ranger/starter at the Palmira Golf Club in St. John, Indiana | ||||||
3 | until he stopped at the age of 92; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri moved to Glenwood in June of 1967 and | ||||||
5 | was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Pack 740 in Glenwood; he was | ||||||
6 | also one of the founders and a president of the Glenwood Forest | ||||||
7 | Improvement Association in the early 1970s; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Adonis Negri was one of the original members of | ||||||
9 | Glenwood Amvets Post 268; he was an honorary member for many | ||||||
10 | years until merchant seamen were finally recognized as military | ||||||
11 | veterans; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
13 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
14 | we congratulate Adonis Joseph Negri
on his 94th birthday, and | ||||||
15 | we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to Adonis Negri as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
18 | esteem.
