HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the General John Stark
4Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the
5American Revolution on the occasion of the 115th anniversary
6of its charter in June 2022; and
7 WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter of the National
8Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was
9organized when 29 charter members met at the home of Lucetta P.
10(Stark) Boynton, wife of Charles O. Boynton, in Sycamore on
11June 22, 1907; the chapter was named for General John Stark, a
12leader during the American Revolutionary War who commanded 75
13percent of the American forces at Bunker Hill and also led at
14the Battle of Bennington; and
15 WHEREAS, The first regent of the General John Stark
16Chapter was Lucetta Boynton, appointed by the state regent of
17the National Society of the Daughters of the American
18Revolution; the chapter additionally elected Mrs. Clare Lattin
19as vice regent, Miss Harriet Stephenson as corresponding
20secretary, Miss Fannie Harroun as recording secretary, Miss
21Grace Stevens as treasurer, Mrs. Gerry Knowlton as registrar,
22Mrs. C.D. Rogers as historian, and Mrs. C.H. Hoyt as chaplain;

1 WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter donates to a
2number of organizations and individuals each year, including
3bestowing thousands of dollars annually to area students
4through the Good Citizen Award, the American History Essay
5Contest, and the Lois Callahan Scholarship; the chapter
6donates to Bacone College and other Native American schools of
7higher education; the organization contributes books to area
8libraries and the DAR Library and encourages literacy
9promotion through summer reading programs at local libraries
10and participating in the A Book by Me program; the chapter has
11additionally given copies of the Bill of Rights, the
12Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence to area
13schools; and
14 WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter recognizes the
15value and contributions made by others; in DeKalb County
16alone, the chapter marked the site with a bronze plaque where
17Abraham Lincoln spoke in Coltonville and where the first
18DeKalb county court was held, donated a bench with a plaque to
19the DeKalb County History Center to commemorate the Illinois
20Bicentennial, bestowed a plaque to memorialize the site of the
21first white settler's cabin in the county, and planted trees
22in Sycamore Park in memory of World War I soldiers and sailors;
23the chapter recognized Resource Bank with the Historical
24Preservation Award for restoring a historically significant

1building in Leland, which now serves as its branch office, and
2presented local members of the Potawatomi Nation with a
3proclamation; the chapter has additionally recognized area
4businesses for their display of patriotism, including WLBK
5Radio for playing the National Anthem twice daily; and
6 WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter engages in several
7events and programs, including participating in Constitution
8Week with displays in area public libraries, the Wreaths
9Across America program, the Wall That Heals project, and Honor
10Flights by escorting veterans to Washington D.C. to view war
11memorials; the chapter worked for the Red Cross and other
12organizations to help in the war efforts of World Wars I and
13II; the organization has further contributed to area food
14pantries and homeless shelters, the LaSalle Veterans' Home,
15Project Patriot, Veterans Day activities, and to the
16renovation of the Memorial Clock in DeKalb; the chapter
17continues to participate in cemetery cleanups and tending
18veterans' graves; it also works to research and preserve
19documents, records, relics, and the individual services of
20American Revolutionary War soldiers and patriots; and
21 WHEREAS, The current presiding officers of the General
22John Stark Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of
23the American Revolution are Regent Mary Pritchard, Vice Regent
24Deb Davey, Chaplain Judy Dettloff, Recording Secretary Cathy

1Walker, Corresponding Secretary Angela Brotcke, Treasurer
2Kathy Smith, Registrar Lisa Brandt, Historian Donna Willrett,
3and Librarian Theresa Winterbauer; and
4 WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter's impact within
5and outside its community is immeasurable, making it
6appropriate to celebrate and recognize this organization's
7growth, progress, perseverance, achievements, and
8accomplishments; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we recognize the General John Stark Chapter of the National
12Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the
13115th anniversary of its charter; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That we express our sincere and heartfelt
15appreciation to the General John Stark Chapter, and we
16congratulate the past and present presiding officers and
17members of the chapter; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the General John Stark Chapter as a symbol of our
20respect and esteem.
