1		HOUSE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3		Representatives wish to recognize the General John Stark
4		Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the
5		American Revolution on the occasion of the 115th anniversary
6		of its charter in June 2022; and
7		WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter of the National
8		Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was
9		organized when 29 charter members met at the home of Lucetta P.
10		(Stark) Boynton, wife of Charles O. Boynton, in Sycamore on
11		June 22, 1907; the chapter was named for General John Stark, a
12		leader during the American Revolutionary War who commanded 75
13		percent of the American forces at Bunker Hill and also led at
14		the Battle of Bennington; and
15		WHEREAS, The first regent of the General John Stark
16		Chapter was Lucetta Boynton, appointed by the state regent of
17		the National Society of the Daughters of the American
18		Revolution; the chapter additionally elected Mrs. Clare Lattin
19		as vice regent, Miss Harriet Stephenson as corresponding
20		secretary, Miss Fannie Harroun as recording secretary, Miss
21		Grace Stevens as treasurer, Mrs. Gerry Knowlton as registrar,
22		Mrs. C.D. Rogers as historian, and Mrs. C.H. Hoyt as chaplain;

1		WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter donates to a
2		number of organizations and individuals each year, including
3		bestowing thousands of dollars annually to area students
4		through the Good Citizen Award, the American History Essay
5		Contest, and the Lois Callahan Scholarship; the chapter
6		donates to Bacone College and other Native American schools of
7		higher education; the organization contributes books to area
8		libraries and the DAR Library and encourages literacy
9		promotion through summer reading programs at local libraries
10		and participating in the A Book by Me program; the chapter has
11		additionally given copies of the Bill of Rights, the
12		Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence to area
13		schools; and
14		WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter recognizes the
15		value and contributions made by others; in DeKalb County
16		alone, the chapter marked the site with a bronze plaque where
17		Abraham Lincoln spoke in Coltonville and where the first
18		DeKalb county court was held, donated a bench with a plaque to
19		the DeKalb County History Center to commemorate the Illinois
20		Bicentennial, bestowed a plaque to memorialize the site of the
21		first white settler's cabin in the county, and planted trees
22		in Sycamore Park in memory of World War I soldiers and sailors;
23		the chapter recognized Resource Bank with the Historical
24		Preservation Award for restoring a historically significant

1		building in Leland, which now serves as its branch office, and
2		presented local members of the Potawatomi Nation with a
3		proclamation; the chapter has additionally recognized area
4		businesses for their display of patriotism, including WLBK
5		Radio for playing the National Anthem twice daily; and
6		WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter engages in several
7		events and programs, including participating in Constitution
8		Week with displays in area public libraries, the Wreaths
9		Across America program, the Wall That Heals project, and Honor
10		Flights by escorting veterans to Washington D.C. to view war
11		memorials; the chapter worked for the Red Cross and other
12		organizations to help in the war efforts of World Wars I and
13		II; the organization has further contributed to area food
14		pantries and homeless shelters, the LaSalle Veterans' Home,
15		Project Patriot, Veterans Day activities, and to the
16		renovation of the Memorial Clock in DeKalb; the chapter
17		continues to participate in cemetery cleanups and tending
18		veterans' graves; it also works to research and preserve
19		documents, records, relics, and the individual services of
20		American Revolutionary War soldiers and patriots; and
21		WHEREAS, The current presiding officers of the General
22		John Stark Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of
23		the American Revolution are Regent Mary Pritchard, Vice Regent
24		Deb Davey, Chaplain Judy Dettloff, Recording Secretary Cathy

1		Walker, Corresponding Secretary Angela Brotcke, Treasurer
2		Kathy Smith, Registrar Lisa Brandt, Historian Donna Willrett,
3		and Librarian Theresa Winterbauer; and
4		WHEREAS, The General John Stark Chapter's impact within
5		and outside its community is immeasurable, making it
6		appropriate to celebrate and recognize this organization's
7		growth, progress, perseverance, achievements, and
8		accomplishments; therefore, be it
9		RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10		HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11		we recognize the General John Stark Chapter of the National
12		Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the
13		115th anniversary of its charter; and be it further
14		RESOLVED, That we express our sincere and heartfelt
15		appreciation to the General John Stark Chapter, and we
16		congratulate the past and present presiding officers and
17		members of the chapter; and be it further
18		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19		presented to the General John Stark Chapter as a symbol of our
20		respect and esteem.
