Bill Title: Congratulates Steve Hill on his retirement from the Grant Community High School District #124 Board of Education (GCHS BOE). Commends him for his dedication and service to the students, staff, and community of GCHS for more than three decades.

2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Steve Hill on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement from the Grant Community High | ||||||
5 | School District #124 Board of Education (GCHS BOE); and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill graduated from GCHS in 1972, where he | ||||||
7 | played football, earning All-County Honors, and baseball; he | ||||||
8 | was also a member of the band, the Chess Club, G Club, and the | ||||||
9 | Bark newspaper staff, and he participated in homecoming, prom | ||||||
10 | planning, and Student Government Day; his family includes | ||||||
11 | three generations of GCHS graduates; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Professionally, Steve Hill worked as a plumber | ||||||
13 | for 48 years, and he was also employed by the Chicago Bears | ||||||
14 | football organization; additionally, he has served in a | ||||||
15 | variety of volunteer roles in the local community; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill joined the GCHS BOE in November 1989, | ||||||
17 | where he has held the position of president since May 2007; | ||||||
18 | during his tenure, he has served as a member of the Site and | ||||||
19 | Facility Committee, passed numerous curricula, policy, and | ||||||
20 | employment decisions, and been instrumental in a number of | ||||||
21 | additions and improvements made to the school, including an | ||||||
22 | auditorium, a library, an art wing, a science wing, a field |

1 | house, and the Bulldog Athletic Complex; he has also played a | ||||||
2 | crucial role in passing two successful education fund and | ||||||
3 | building fund referendums, occurring in 2003 and 2008; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill has served as the GCHS BOE's alternate | ||||||
5 | member on the Illinois Association of School Board (IASB) and | ||||||
6 | the Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL); and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill has been recognized for his service to | ||||||
8 | GCHS, being previously inducted into the GCHS Hall of Fame in | ||||||
9 | 2020; he has also been cited for his work on the Site and | ||||||
10 | Facility Committee and his involvement with IASB and SEDOL; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill has always striven to serve in the | ||||||
13 | best interest of GCHS students while maintaining a calm and | ||||||
14 | steady demeanor, offering keen insights that have helped | ||||||
15 | develop good relations with the staff and productive, mutually | ||||||
16 | agreeable bargaining of union contracts; and

17 | WHEREAS, Steve Hill, the longest-serving member of the | ||||||
18 | GCHS BOE, will step down at the board's meeting on June 20, | ||||||
19 | 2024; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
21 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
