HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John T. Hooker,
4Executive Vice President, Legislative and External Affairs of
5Commonwealth Edison Company, who is retiring after forty-four
6years of service to the company; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker, who started in the ComEd mailroom in
81968, has epitomized the American spirit of hard work and
9steadfast dedication to create a better life for himself, his
10wife, Kim, his family, and his community; he has been
11instrumental in helping ComEd build bridges to the community it
12serves and to better represent the diversity of its 3.6 million
13customers; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker has become one of the most respected
15policy advocates in Springfield, known by all for his honesty,
16integrity, ability to work with all sides of an issue, and an
17unending personal dedication to make Illinois a better place
18for all; and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker has been a key advocate for the reform,
20revitalization, and restructuring of the State's electric
21industry and the modernization of the State's electric
22infrastructure, and other important policy initiatives; and

1 WHEREAS, Prior to his appointment as executive vice
2president, he served as senior vice president of Legislative &
3Governmental Affairs and was responsible for managing ComEd's
4relationships with the Chicago City Council, the Illinois
5General Assembly, and other State agencies; previous to that
6position, he served as senior vice president of Legislative &
7External Affairs for ComEd; and
8 WHEREAS, At the same time he served as vice president,
9Property Management, Exelon Energy Delivery, with
10responsibility for facilities, real estate, and claims at both
11ComEd and Philadelphia-based sister company PECO Energy; and
12 WHEREAS, John T. Hooker is noted for his many "Hookerisms"
13of which one highlights his professional career, "will make it
14work"; and
15 WHEREAS, He has served in numerous ComEd departments for 44
16years, holding management positions in industrial relations,
17marketing, governmental, and regulatory affairs; his expertise
18was instrumental to the passage of Illinois' Customer Choice
19Law of 1997; he is a founding member of the Exelon African
20American Members' Association (EAAMA); founded in 1990, the
21organization focuses on building members' individual growth
22opportunities within the company; and

1 WHEREAS, He serves on the board of directors of the Chicago
2State University Foundation; the Peoples Consumer Cooperative;
3the Safer Foundation; Junior Achievement; and The African
4American Legacy Initiative; he is a member of the American
5Association of Black in Energy, an organization devoted to
6increasing the number of blacks and other minorities in
7energy-related fields; he also is a member of Chicago State
8University's Business Hall of Fame committee, and is involved
9with the Chicago Public Schools Youth Motivation Program;
10therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate John T. Hooker on his retirement and wish him
14the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to John T. Hooker as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
