HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, An estimated 15 million Americans are current or
3former military brats, including those who spent all or part of
4their childhood or adolescence in the lifestyle; and
5 WHEREAS, The number of military brats has grown over the
6past 250 years alongside the United States Armed Forces; these
7adolescents have a unique American cultural experience through
8their travels around the country and world; and
9 WHEREAS, Military brats live a very mobile upbringing,
10moving with their parents when they are deployed or transferred
11to new military bases; and
12 WHEREAS, Military brats are often asked by others where
13they are from and provide an array of responses, with many
14saying everywhere or nowhere because of the many places they
15have lived and traveled; and
16 WHEREAS, Military brats are very adaptive to their new
17surroundings, are outgoing in nature, are able to adapt to new
18changes, and are constantly making new friends everywhere they
19move; and
20 WHEREAS, Military brats are typically very worldly in their

1knowledge of foreign cultures and customs based on their many
2moves and by living in other nations, providing a unique
3experience that is not typically experienced by the general
4public; and
5 WHEREAS, Military brats are known for being disciplined and
6outstanding students, with approximately 60% of brats holding
7higher education degrees and 30% holding advanced degrees; and
8 WHEREAS, Many of the military brats grow up to find great
9careers in public service, becoming police officers,
10firefighters, teachers, doctors, and nurses; many of them end
11up finding the same call their parents did by serving in the
12United States Armed Forces; and
13 WHEREAS, Unlike most of their military parents, military
14brats did not volunteer for this assignment, but most take it
15on proudly and execute it with distinction; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18designate April 30, 2016 as Military Brat Day in Illinois to
19appreciate the sacrifice and service of these patriots by
20giving them our thanks and respect.
