2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Sonya L. Bowen for her many | ||||||
4 | years of service; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a native of Chicago and currently | ||||||
6 | resides in Richton Park; she earned her Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
7 | Computer Information Systems and her Master of Science in | ||||||
8 | Management with a dual option in Finance and Accounting from | ||||||
9 | Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a life member and a silver soror of | ||||||
11 | Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated (AKA) with 31 years of | ||||||
12 | uninterrupted service; she was initiated into Epsilon Rho | ||||||
13 | Chapter at Purdue University in 1987; she is a member of the | ||||||
14 | Lambda Tau Omega Chapter in Matteson, where she previously | ||||||
15 | served as the youngest president, vice president, treasurer, | ||||||
16 | assistant financial secretary, and parliamentarian; she also | ||||||
17 | served as the protocol chairman of the Central Region from | ||||||
18 | 2010 to 2014, general chairman of the 68th Central Regional | ||||||
19 | Conference, and a member of the 2014-2018 International | ||||||
20 | Protocol Committee; and

21 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen currently serves Alpha Kappa Alpha, | ||||||
22 | Incorporated as a regional director, a position she has held |

1 | since her election at the 2018 Central Regional Conference; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is a senior research administrator | ||||||
4 | for the Department of Neurology at Northwestern University, | ||||||
5 | where she is responsible for the administration of a grant | ||||||
6 | portfolio comprised of approximately $15 million; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is an active member of Twenty Pearls | ||||||
8 | Foundation, Incorporated, the Bronzeville Children Museum's | ||||||
9 | Women Board, the Purdue Alumni Association, and the Purdue | ||||||
10 | Black Alumni Association; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sonya Bowen is deeply committed to her faith and | ||||||
12 | is a member of Faith Movers Church; therefore, be it
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we recognizes Sonya L. Bowen for her dedication and service; | ||||||
16 | and be it further
