| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The Federation of Indian Associations was | ||||||
| 3 | established to both celebrate Asian-Indian history and culture | ||||||
| 4 | as well as to provide a platform and a voice for the | ||||||
| 5 | Asian-Indian community; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Over the years, the Federation of Indian | ||||||
| 7 | Associations has taken perceptions and interests about India to | ||||||
| 8 | the mainstream community and furthered the interests of Indians | ||||||
| 9 | residing in the United States; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, It is in the spirit of celebrating Asian-Indian | ||||||
| 11 | culture and its influence in the mainstream community that we | ||||||
| 12 | gather together with the Federation of Indian Associations to | ||||||
| 13 | celebrate India's 65th Republic Day; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, India's Republic Day commemorates the historic | ||||||
| 15 | events that began in
1947 when India gained her independence | ||||||
| 16 | from British rule and in 1950, formally established the | ||||||
| 17 | republic's constitution; India's Republic Day also offers a | ||||||
| 18 | wonderful opportunity for Indian Americans in the northwest | ||||||
| 19 | suburbs of Chicago to rejoice and celebrate their rich | ||||||
| 20 | heritage; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Celebrating India's Republic Day gives all | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | citizens a chance to embrace Indian culture and learn more | ||||||
| 2 | about its history and traditions; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, India's Republic Day remembers the great | ||||||
| 4 | sacrifices that were made during the struggle for India's | ||||||
| 5 | independence; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 7 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we commemorate India's 65th Republic Day and declare January | ||||||
| 9 | 26, 2014 as India's Republic Day in the Illinois; and be it | ||||||
| 10 | further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 12 | presented to the Federation of Indian Associations as an | ||||||
| 13 | expression of our esteem and respect.
