HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives publicly
3acknowledges and recognizes those individuals who serve their
4greater community, those whose hard work, dedication, and
5commitment to the needs of those around them drive the success
6of programs, causes, and organizations; and
7 WHEREAS, "Kehillath Sha'arei Tzedek Mishkan Yair," a
8communal mainstay in the West Rogers Park neighborhood of
9Chicago for more than a quarter century, is celebrating its
10twenty-sixth anniversary dinner on February 3, 2018, and at
11this time of celebration, is proud to join the Illinois House
12of Representatives in honoring Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish; and
13 WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has continually served the
14greater community; in the fifteen years he spent at the Agudath
15Israel of America, he secured critical funding for Jewish
16communal programs, both nationwide and within the state of
17Illinois; his strong relationships and fundraising abilities
18attracted tens of millions of dollars in state and federal aid
19to communities in need nationwide; and
20 WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has faithfully served the
21Synagogue as its cantor for more than two decades; his years of
22service and dedication to the synagogue have earned him the

1respect and admiration of the congregation; and
2 WHEREAS, Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish has received numerous
3awards for his work, including a recognition from The Walton
4Family Foundation for the development of a strong grass roots
5movement in the area of school choice, a New York State Senate
6Proclamation for hurricane relief efforts, the Alumnus of the
7Year Award from the Cincinnati Hebrew Day School, and an award
8for the development of critical school choice advocacy efforts
9from the Ruth and Lovette Peters Foundation; and
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12recognize Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish for his steadfast devotion,
13leadership, and dedication to his synagogue and the greater
14community, and we congratulate him on his accomplishments and
15contributions to the people of the State of Illinois and the
16nation; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Rabbi Yehiel M. Kalish as an expression of our
19esteem and respect.
