Encourages collaboration among businesses, labor organizations, and educational institutions to create pathways for women to enter and thrive in trades. Congratulates the organizers, sponsors, and participants of the Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield event for their efforts and contributions in making the event a success.

HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The skilled trades keep our country running and
3are essential in keeping our communities safe and healthy;
4with the projected job growth and financial freedom provided,
5the trades can provide an engaging and satisfying career path;
6and
7 WHEREAS, While the trades have been a male-dominated field
8historically, more and more women are starting to join the
9industry, and progress has been made toward greater gender
10equality in these industries; and
11 WHEREAS, Tradeswomen have had a positive impact on the
12local economy, the workforce, and community development in the
13State of Illinois; and
14 WHEREAS, It is important to inspire young women and girls
15to consider careers in skilled trades and to offer
16opportunities for STEM education and vocational training
17through DOL approved Apprenticeship Programs; and
18 WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield on May 16, 2023
19is the first annual Illinois Tradeswomen Recruitment and Lobby
20Day, an event designed to shine a spotlight on women in trades
21typically dominated by men, to celebrate women around our

1State who work with tools, and to foster a sense of community
2and solidarity among tradeswomen and the broader Illinois
3community; and
4 WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield is a day to
5learn about the building and construction trades and the
6various job opportunities available to all women across the
7State of Illinois and is open to women of all ages and all
8experience levels who are interested in strong/equitable pay,
9apprentice training, and the support of a union contract;
10therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we commend the women in trades who are breaking down barriers,
14demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication, and serving as
15role models for others; and be it further
