HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the
death of Milton and Ruby McClendon, who passed away on October
19, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was born on June 19, 1931, in
Hammond, Indiana; his parents were William and Geneva
McClendon; Ruby McClendon was born on October 17, 1933, in
Stanton, Tennessee; her parents were Theodore and Willola
Jones; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were both graduates of
Hammond High School, graduating with the Classes of 1950 and
1951, respectively; Milton served his country with pride and
distinction as a member of the United States Army from 1951 to
1954; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were united in holy
matrimony in 1955; and
WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was employed with the United
States Postal Service for many years until his retirement in
1986; Ruby McClendon was employed with Pullman Standard and
Tran-Zact in Hammond, Indiana for many years until her

retirement in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were active members in
their community; Milton served as a Little League coach and
served as a guide and mentor for many aspiring athletes,
particularly in track and field; Ruby was an active member of
the Hammond Public Schools PTA and served as a den mother for
many Cub Scout troops; both Milton and Ruby were dedicated
members of the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon were loyal and dedicated
members of the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Munster, Indiana;
and
WHEREAS, Milton McClendon was preceded in death by his
parents, William and Geneva, and his brother, Ulysses Napoleon
McClendon; Ruby McClendon was preceded in death by her parents,
Theodore and Willola Jones; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon are survived by their
loving sons, Duane (Reba) McClendon, Theodore (Carol Smith)
McClendon, and Garrard (Quanica) McClendon; their adoring
grandchildren, Olympia (George) McClendon Johnson, ReAnne
Namara McClendon, Jocelyn Patrice Russell, Jaiman Duane
McClendon, Maximillian Elston McClendon, Tristin Kailan
Russell, and Miranda Aurora McClendon; their great-grandchild,

Geordan D. Johnson; and their many other family members and
friends; Milton is also survived by his sister, Irene Agnel
Hayes, and his brother, William (Sylvia) McClendon; and
WHEREAS, Milton and Ruby McClendon will be remembered by
all who knew and loved them as pillars of their community, role
models to the countless children and adults they guided through
life's trials, and as loving and supportive parents; therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn, along with their family and friends, the passing of
Milton and Ruby McClendon; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Milton and Ruby McClendon as an
expression of our sympathy.
