2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Teresa Brown on being | ||||||
4 | selected as the 2017 Illinois State Board of Education's | ||||||
5 | Outstanding Early Career Educator; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Teresa Brown is a sixth-grade social studies | ||||||
7 | teacher at the Harrison Community Learning Center; previously, | ||||||
8 | she taught eighth-grade language arts at Manual Academy, where | ||||||
9 | she also coached girls track and softball and organized Black | ||||||
10 | History Month events and eighth-grade celebrations; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Teresa Brown graduated from Manual Academy and | ||||||
12 | attended Bradley University on an academic and partial track | ||||||
13 | scholarship in 1987; she left in 1990, but eventually returned, | ||||||
14 | earning a degree in education in 2008; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Never one to shy away from starting over, Teresa | ||||||
16 | Brown began teaching at 43; and

17 | WHEREAS, Teresa Brown will accept the award at the state | ||||||
18 | board's annual Those Who Excel banquet in Normal; therefore, be | ||||||
19 | it
