HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Illinois State Representative John C. "Jack" McGuire, who
5passed away on January 2, 2020 at the age of 86; and
6 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was born in Joliet to Emmett and
7Mildred McGuire on May 12, 1933; he was a parishioner of St.
8Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Joliet; he graduated from
9Joliet Catholic High School in 1951; and
10 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire attended Joliet Junior College and
11was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame; he entered the
12United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the
13Korean War; he enrolled in Colorado State College after
14completing his tour and graduated in 1958; and
15 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was a member of American Legion Post
161080, the Irish-American Society of County Will, and Cantigny
17Post 367 VFW; he volunteered for Meals On Wheels and
18Cornerstone, as well as various other community organizations;
19and
20 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was elected as a Democratic member to
21the Illinois House of Representatives; he represented the 86th

1District from 1990 to April 2012 and served as Assistant
2Majority Leader; he was a former Chairman of the House Aging
3Committee and a champion of senior issues; and
4 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire received the 2012 Larry Walsh
5Lifetime Achievement Award from the Will County Democratic
6Central Committee; prior to his election to the House of
7Representatives, he served as Supervisor in Joliet Township
8from 1982 to 1991 and as a Trustee from 1973 to 1982; and
9 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was an avid runner and completed the
10Chicago Marathon in 1986; he loved golf and taking family trips
11with all of his grandchildren to Siesta Key, Florida and South
12Haven, Michigan; he also enjoyed attending Joliet Catholic
13football games on Friday nights; and
14 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife,
15Marilyn J. "Mitzi" (Miller); his parents; his son, Thomas L.
16McGuire; his brother, Paul McGuire; his sister, Helen La Barre;
17and his second wife, Patricia; and
18 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire is survived by his children, Kathleen
19A. (John) Dougherty, Michael E. McGuire, and Julie A. (Thomas)
20Sicinski; his grandchildren, Jillian (Sean Whitney), Patrick
21and Michael Dougherty, Thomas, Patrick (Liz), Michael (Amy),
22and Sean McGuire, and Alexander, Stephanie, Emily, and Zachary

1Sicinski; his great-grandchildren, Baird, Shae, and Henry
2McGuire; one great-grandson due in the spring; his twin
3brother, James E. (Judith) McGuire; his sister-in-law, Marilyn
4A. McGuire; his brother-in-law, James Miller; his
5sisters-in-law, Lois Bernhard and Ruth Ann Campbell; and
6several nieces and nephews; and
7 WHEREAS, Rep. McGuire was a dedicated public servant
8throughout his entire life; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative
12John C. "Jack" McGuire and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Rep. McGuire as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
