HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, RLI Corp will celebrate the $20 million
3expansion/renovation of its corporate headquarters on November
46, 2013 at 9025 N. Lindbergh Drive in Peoria; and
5 WHEREAS, The expansion, the company's fifth since 1970,
6reflects RLI's commitment to Peoria; and
7 WHEREAS, The project is the culmination of years of
8planning in which RLI employees were an integral part; focus
9groups guided design decisions on workstations, layouts,
10furniture, technology and ambience; and
11 WHEREAS, RLI was founded nearly 50 years ago by its
12visionary founder, Gerald Stephens, who recognized a need to
13insure the expensive replacement of contact lens (RLI); and
14 WHEREAS, RLI became the largest contact lens insurer in the
15world before expanding into the direct writing of commercial
16umbrella programs; today RLI covers a diversified portfolio of
17property and casualty coverage and surety bonds in niche
18markets in all 50 states; subsidiaries include: RLI Insurance
19Company, Mt. Hawley Insurance Company, RLI Indemnity and
20Contractors Bonding and Insurance Company; the $2.6 billion
21company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange; and

1 WHEREAS, Chairman and CEO, Jonathan Michael attributes
2RLI's success to "Different Works" - a corporate brand that
3embodies Midwest values of creativity, innovation, hard work,
4and financial discipline; and
5 WHEREAS, Jonathan Michael has exemplified the RLI
6tradition of outstanding community service; and
7 WHEREAS, RLI has been celebrated throughout its history for
8its corporate and employee generosity to local, cultural,
9educational and community institutions, notably OSF St.
10Francis, and Bradley University; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate RLI Corp for its expansion and commitment to
14the Peoria community; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Jonathan Michael, Chairman and CEO of RLI Corp.
