2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize the Thompson Karate | ||||||
4 | Foundation Academy and Grandmaster Dr. Cynthia Thompson; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy was | ||||||
6 | founded in 1991 and offers all students martial arts training | ||||||
7 | as well as after school tutoring and mentoring; students learn | ||||||
8 | the discipline of the martial arts, travel to local, national | ||||||
9 | and international tournaments and participate in several | ||||||
10 | community service projects that are related to developing | ||||||
11 | self-respect, self-discipline, and academic success; they have | ||||||
12 | two foundations that award college scholarships and also serve | ||||||
13 | as a court appointed community service organization; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy is funded | ||||||
15 | completely by Dr. Cynthia Thompson and Master Jean Thigpen; | ||||||
16 | funding covers all student expenses for competitions, assuring | ||||||
17 | that every student will have an opportunity to represent their | ||||||
18 | community world-wide; and

19 | WHEREAS, The Thompson Karate Foundation Academy supports | ||||||
20 | the Girls-N-Gi's All Female Martial Arts College Scholarship | ||||||
21 | Tournament, the Girls-N-Gi's Pageant, Kick the Streets Martial | ||||||
22 | Arts, Kick the Streets Mission, educational benefits, Court |

2 | Probation, community service and mentoring, Kick the Street | ||||||
3 | Martial Arts male scholarships, and the Chicagoland Black Belt | ||||||

5 | WHEREAS, Previously, the Thompson Karate Foundation | ||||||
6 | Academy has supported the Cynthia L. Thompson Academic | ||||||
7 | Scholarship, the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Public | ||||||
8 | Schools "We Care" Role Model Program, the Roseland Community | ||||||
9 | Youth Volunteer, Chicago State University Academic | ||||||
10 | Scholarships, and the University of Illinois Principal's | ||||||
11 | Summer Institute Scholarships; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
13 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
14 | recognize the Thompson Karate Foundation Academy and | ||||||
15 | Grandmaster Dr. Cynthia Thompson, and we wish them many more | ||||||
16 | years of success; and be it further
