2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the residents of the
4Village of La Grange Park on the 125th anniversary of its
5founding in 2017; and
6 WHEREAS, The Village of La Grange Park was founded on July
714, 1892 when 300 residents living in the southwest corner of
8Proviso Township came together to form what was then a unique
9suburb - a bedroom community, with no business district or rail
10transportation service; and
11 WHEREAS, From La Grange Park's quiet beginnings, it has
12grown into one of the Chicago area's most livable communities
13for its 13,579 residents; it is known for its historic homes
14along tree-lined streets and its diverse range of housing
15options, which have made La Grange Park one of the most stable
16real estate markets in the country; and
17 WHEREAS, La Grange Park has seen an influx of new residents
18as young families have been drawn to the award-winning private
19and public schools that serve the community, including Nazareth
20Academy, Lyons Township High School, and Riverside-Brookfield
21High School; and

1 WHEREAS, La Grange Park also cherishes its senior citizens,
2and it includes three first-class senior living facilities; and
3 WHEREAS, La Grange Park offers ample recreational
4opportunities, including 24 acres of parks, multiple Cook
5County Forest Preserves, and the beautiful Salt Creek Bike
6Trail, which runs through it; it offers community events such
7as the annual Jazz & Blues Fest, the Concert Under the Stars
8series, and the National Night Out, which always draws large
9crowds; in addition, the weekend block parties bring neighbors
10together; and
11 WHEREAS, La Grange Park residents and visitors can take
12advantage of a variety of shopping and service amenities
13offered by 110 businesses, ranging from national brands to
14locally owned shops; and
15 WHEREAS, La Grange Park residents enjoy easy access to the
16entire Chicago metropolitan area with METRA rail service and
17Interstates 294, 290, and 55, all nearby; and
18 WHEREAS, La Grange Park will celebrate its
19quasquicentennial with a day-long birthday celebration on July
2015th in Memorial Park; therefore, be it

2recognize the Village of La Grange Park on the 125th
3anniversary of its founding and we wish it many more years as
4being one of the Chicago area's premier residential
5communities; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the Village of La Grange Park.
