HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Betty Lou
4Reed of Deerfield, who passed away on July 11, 2011; and
5 WHEREAS, Betty Lou Reed was a dedicated public servant; she
6began her career in public service as a Supervisor on the Lake
7County Illinois Board of Supervisors from 1969 to 1972; while
8on the Board of Supervisors, she was also elected to serve as
9the Commissioner of the Lake County Forest Preserve; she was
10elected to serve as the President of the Lake County Township
11Officials Association from 1971 to 1972; she also served as a
12member of the West Deerfield Township Committee on Youth from
131972 to 1974; and
14 WHEREAS, Betty Lou Reed represented the Lake County area as
15an Illinois State Representative in the 79th, 80th, 81st, and
1682nd General Assemblies; she won her first election defeating
17the House Majority Leader W.J. Murphy in 1973; and
18 WHEREAS, Betty Lou Reed took, while as a member of the
19Illinois General Assembly, an active role in dealing with
20issues for Cities and Counties, as well as Energy and the
21Environment; she continually served on the Cities and Villages
22committee, the Counties and Townships committee, and the

1Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources Committee; and
2 WHEREAS, Betty Lou Reed did not seek reelection in 1982 and
3began work as an Executive Assistant to Congressman John Porter
4from 1983 to 1989; she then worked as a campaign consultant and
5assistant treasurer for Congressman John Porter's campaigns
6from 1989 to 1996; and
7 WHEREAS, Betty Lou Reed is survived by her daughters, Nancy
8of Denver, Colorado and Sally of Kansas City, Missouri; and her
9many grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband,
10Richard C. Reed; her parents; and her infant son; therefore, be
11it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
15Betty Lou Reed; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Betty Lou Reed as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
