2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Southwestern Illinois | ||||||
4 | College Sam Wolf Granite City Campus on the occasion of the | ||||||
5 | 40th anniversary of its founding; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Granite City Center opened in 1983, occupying | ||||||
7 | the previous Granite City North High School building; aviation | ||||||
8 | maintenance was the first program as training moved from the | ||||||
9 | Cahokia Airport to the Granite City Center; along with | ||||||
10 | aviation maintenance, machining and a few transfer courses | ||||||
11 | were offered; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The Granite City Center received approval from | ||||||
13 | the Illinois Community College Board to become the Granite | ||||||
14 | City Campus of Belleville Area College in 1985; the campus | ||||||
15 | offered a robust curriculum, including transfer and industrial | ||||||
16 | training programs to support the local industries, along with | ||||||
17 | community interest courses and adult education; and

18 | WHEREAS, The Granite City campus gymnasium was converted | ||||||
19 | into an industrial training center in 1992; the new facility | ||||||
20 | opened and supported expanded programming in areas such as | ||||||
21 | pipefitting, electronics, welding, appliance repair and | ||||||
22 | heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair in 1994; |

2 | WHEREAS, Belleville Area College was renamed Southwestern | ||||||
3 | Illinois College in 2000 to more closely align with the region | ||||||
4 | served; and

5 | WHEREAS, To honor Southwestern Illinois College Trustee | ||||||
6 | and former Illinois House of Representative Sam Wolf for his | ||||||
7 | long-time dedication to higher education and the residents of | ||||||
8 | Southern Illinois, the college renamed the Granite City Campus | ||||||
9 | as the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus in 2006; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Sam Wolf Granite City Campus remains a | ||||||
11 | premier educational institution offering a wide array of | ||||||
12 | career and technical education programs in industrial trades | ||||||
13 | and health care and transfer courses; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
15 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we congratulate Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite | ||||||
17 | City Campus on its 40th anniversary and wish them many more | ||||||
18 | wonderful years; and be it further
