2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles | ||||||
4 | J. "Charlie" Myler of Aurora, who passed away on April 6, 2015; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Charles Myler was born in Ottawa on June 20, 1931 | ||||||
7 | to John and Mary Hart Myler; he graduated from Ottawa High | ||||||
8 | School at the of 16 and then from the Catholic University of | ||||||
9 | America in Washington, D.C.; he obtained his law degree from | ||||||
10 | Georgetown University Law Center and was admitted to the | ||||||
11 | Illinois Bar in 1955; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree, Charles Myler was | ||||||
13 | drafted into the United States Army; he was chosen to be a | ||||||
14 | member of the Counter Intelligence Corps and was sent to study | ||||||
15 | Romanian at the Army Language School at the Presidio in | ||||||
16 | Monterey, California; after 8 months, he was sent to Nuremberg, | ||||||
17 | Germany during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and spent 2 years | ||||||
18 | working in refugee camps, aiding refugees from behind the Iron | ||||||
19 | Curtain; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Upon his discharge from the Army in 1958, Charles | ||||||
21 | Myler settled in Aurora and practiced law with the firm of | ||||||
22 | Sears & Streit; in 1960, he formed the firm of Ruddy & Myler; |

1 | in 1985, he became the senior partner in the firm known as | ||||||
2 | Myler, Ruddy (Philip) & McTavish (Alex); for most of his | ||||||
3 | career, he practiced civil litigation and later concentrated | ||||||
4 | his practice on Chapter 11 reorganizations under federal | ||||||
5 | bankruptcy law; he greatly enjoyed helping small businesses | ||||||
6 | emerge from financial difficulties; he was appointed to the | ||||||
7 | United States Bankruptcy Court Panel of Interim Trustees in | ||||||
8 | 1978 and served in that capacity until 2013 when he retired; he | ||||||
9 | was a member of the Kane County Bar Association, the Illinois | ||||||
10 | State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association; he was | ||||||
11 | licensed to practice before the Illinois and federal courts; | ||||||
12 | for over 30 years, he was the moderator of the Kane County Bar | ||||||
13 | Association's annual memorial service for deceased members of | ||||||
14 | the local Bar; and

15 | WHEREAS, Charles Myler co-founded the Fox Valley Special | ||||||
16 | Recreation Association; he served on the Special Recreation | ||||||
17 | board for over 30 years, serving as President several times; he | ||||||
18 | was appointed to the Fox Valley Park District board of trustees | ||||||
19 | in 1978, serving on that board for 30 years and as its | ||||||
20 | President for one term; he also served on the Fox Valley Park | ||||||
21 | District Foundation board until his death; in 1975, he was the | ||||||
22 | driving force behind the formation of the Illinois | ||||||
23 | Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Authority, a group | ||||||
24 | dedicated to the rights of persons with disabilities, and he | ||||||
25 | served on the board until it was absorbed into the present |

1 | Illinois Department of Human Services; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Charles Myler enjoyed Alpine skiing, traveling, | ||||||
3 | classical music, and owning and piloting his own private | ||||||
4 | planes; he also collected fine art and fine wines; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Charles Myler was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
6 | and his brother-in-law, Rocco Russo; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Charles Myler is survived by his wife of 28 years, | ||||||
8 | Kay; his daughters, Jennifer and Kathe (Mark) Makoui; his | ||||||
9 | granddaughters, Hannah Roze and Sarah Abigail Makoui; his | ||||||
10 | sister, Mary Margaret Russo; his niece and 5 nephews; his 18 | ||||||
11 | great-nephews and great-nieces; his first cousin, the Hon. | ||||||
12 | William T. Hart; his first cousin, Denis Hart; his | ||||||
13 | step-children, Richard Gee, Jon Gee (Becky), and Diane Gee | ||||||
14 | Taylor (Tim); his step-grandchildren, Adam Gee, Damon Dombeck, | ||||||
15 | and Dylan Dombeck; his mother-in-law, Wilma Stark; and his | ||||||
16 | brother-in-law, John Stark (Yanzi); therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | mourn the passing of Charles J. Myler, and extend our sincere | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
21 | him; and be it further
