2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Cindy McCuen on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her retirement on June 30, 2019, after over 43 | ||||||
5 | years of dedicated service as the Support Staff Administrator | ||||||
6 | for the House Democratic Research/Appropriations Staff of the | ||||||
7 | Illinois House of Representatives; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen was born in Des Moines, Iowa to | ||||||
9 | Charles "Chick" and Jane McCuen; Chick's work as a former | ||||||
10 | television and radio newscaster in Iowa took his family and | ||||||
11 | toddler, Cindy, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he became the | ||||||
12 | first news director at WCCO-TV; in the early 1960s, Chick was | ||||||
13 | hired by WMAQ-NBC in Chicago as a reporter and news anchor, | ||||||
14 | which led to the McCuen family moving to Winnetka, Illinois; | ||||||
15 | and

16 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen attended Skokie Junior High in | ||||||
17 | Winnetka, Illinois and graduated from New Trier High School in | ||||||
18 | 1966; she continued her education at the University of Kansas, | ||||||
19 | where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts; before starting | ||||||
20 | her career with the Illinois General Assembly, she worked in | ||||||
21 | Lawrence, Kansas for the Head Start Program, where she designed | ||||||
22 | and created children's reading books; and

1 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen is the proud mother of Matthew Thomas | ||||||
2 | McCuen, who was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1992; as a | ||||||
3 | single mother, she worked hard to give her son the world while | ||||||
4 | balancing her hours at the Illinois General Assembly; as a | ||||||
5 | testimony, Matthew received his Bachelor of Science from | ||||||
6 | Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and now works in St. | ||||||
7 | Louis, Missouri as a mechanical engineer; he plans to marry | ||||||
8 | Taylor McDermott in October 2019; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen shares a close bond with her two | ||||||
10 | sisters, Mary Calgren of Edina, Minnesota and Joanie Wexler of | ||||||
11 | Oak Brook, Illinois; she misses her mother Jane McCuen, fondly | ||||||
12 | described as a fun and loving homemaker who worked tirelessly | ||||||
13 | raising her three daughters; Cindy proudly boasts that they | ||||||
14 | never had a fight; and

15 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen also misses her father who was, in | ||||||
16 | addition to being a scrappy news reporter, an avid scrabble | ||||||
17 | player and clever story teller, who told tales encompassing | ||||||
18 | countless news accounts and theories after covering the 1968 | ||||||
19 | Chicago riots, the Richard Speck murder trial, U.S. Senator | ||||||
20 | Charles Percy's daughter's murder, and the statehouse in | ||||||
21 | Springfield, Illinois; and

22 | WHEREAS, During her tenure, Cindy McCuen has worked with | ||||||
23 | over 100 staffers, providing guidance, patiently assisting, |

1 | and answering every question brought to her; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen has coordinated thousands of fiscal | ||||||
3 | notes, reviewed and formatted countless bill analyses and | ||||||
4 | memos, and drafted numerous state budgets; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen is led by her intuition, patience, | ||||||
6 | and dedication; she has served as a mentor, a leader, and, most | ||||||
7 | importantly, a friend; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Throughout her long career with the legislature, | ||||||
9 | Cindy McCuen has served under the guidance of Speaker William | ||||||
10 | A. Redmond and Speaker Michael J. Madigan, Chiefs of Staff Gary | ||||||
11 | LaPaille, Tim Mapes, and Jessica Basham, and | ||||||
12 | Research/Appropriations Staff Directors Jim Andrews, Ralph | ||||||
13 | Nickell, Bill Foster, Bob Carter, Bill Holland, Veronica Lynch, | ||||||
14 | Tony Rossi, Terri Coombes, John Lowder, Jessica Basham, and | ||||||
15 | Mark Jarmer; and

16 | WHEREAS, Following her retirement from state government, | ||||||
17 | Cindy McCuen is excited for her son's upcoming wedding; she | ||||||
18 | plans on traveling and is eager to relax; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Cindy McCuen's legacy of hard work, honesty, and | ||||||
20 | devotion to both the government and people of the State of | ||||||
21 | Illinois will be fondly remembered by the members of this noble |

1 | body and staff; therefore, be it

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
3 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we congratulate Cindy McCuen on the occasion of her retirement, | ||||||
5 | thank her for her many years of committed service to the | ||||||
6 | Illinois General Assembly and the people of the State of | ||||||
7 | Illinois, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; | ||||||
8 | and be it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to Cindy McCuen as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
