| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sharon Seals on her | ||||||
4 | retirement from School District 129 in Aurora; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sharon Seals received her early education from the | ||||||
6 | Chicago Public School system, graduating with honors from | ||||||
7 | Calumet High School in 1970; she is an outstanding alumna of | ||||||
8 | Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, receiving a Bachelor's | ||||||
9 | of Arts degree in Education in 1974, and a Master's of Science | ||||||
10 | degree in Education in 1976; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sharon Seals has given thirty-five years of | ||||||
12 | service educating students and teachers; she taught music and | ||||||
13 | art in the Chicago Public School System from 1974 to 1976; in | ||||||
14 | the fall of 1976, she was employed by the Aurora Public School | ||||||
15 | District 129 and assigned to Gertrude Smith Elementary School, | ||||||
16 | where she remained for thirty-three years; and

17 | WHEREAS, She served in a variety of instructional/advisory | ||||||
18 | positions at Gertrude Smith Elementary School; she taught | ||||||
19 | grades 1-4 during her tenure; in this capacity, she planned, | ||||||
20 | organized, and taught daily lessons; she was noted for creating | ||||||
21 | unique lessons in math, reading, science, writing, and social | ||||||
22 | studies; further, she adapted instruction for special needs |

1 | students, i.e., autism, learning disabled, and attention | ||||||
2 | deficit disorder; she created interactive bulletin boards in | ||||||
3 | and outside of the classroom, facilitated guided reading | ||||||
4 | groups, and developing comprehensions and assessments; and

5 | WHEREAS, As a professional educator with an exemplary | ||||||
6 | record of service, Sharon Seals was highly regarded by her | ||||||
7 | colleagues, serving as team leader of grade levels; in this | ||||||
8 | role, she frequently collaborated with other classroom | ||||||
9 | teachers, other staff, and parents; she served as a | ||||||
10 | motivational speaker for students, produced and directed | ||||||
11 | all-school programs, and implemented a reward and discipline | ||||||
12 | system for students; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Her communication style with school staff, | ||||||
14 | students, and parents has been described as warm and | ||||||
15 | diplomatic; in the community, Sharon Seals is committed to | ||||||
16 | service; as a faithful member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist | ||||||
17 | Church of Chicago, she served in numerous capacities including: | ||||||
18 | music director of the Junior Choir, assistant director of | ||||||
19 | Easter and Children's Day programs, Sunday School Attendant, | ||||||
20 | Chairperson of graduation activities, and Women's Day keynote | ||||||
21 | speaker; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Sharon has been married to Donnie Seals, Sr. for | ||||||
23 | the past thirty-four years; they are the proud parents of three |

1 | children who are college graduates and successful, productive | ||||||
2 | citizens in their various communities; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | congratulate Sharon Seals on her retirement and wish her the | ||||||
6 | best in her future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Sharon Seals as a symbol of our respect.
