2 | WHEREAS, Food allergies affect nearly 15 million people in | ||||||
3 | the United States, including one in 13 children; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Research shows that food allergies are increasing | ||||||
5 | in the
United States, particularly among children; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Shellfish, fish, milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, | ||||||
7 | soy, and wheat are the eight foods that
cause the majority of | ||||||
8 | food allergies; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Common symptoms of food allergies include hives, | ||||||
10 | vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory
distress, and swelling of the | ||||||
11 | throat; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, More than 200,000 emergency room visits are caused | ||||||
13 | by food allergies each year; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Scientists are still looking for a cure for food | ||||||
15 | allergies; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Every person with a food allergy must strictly | ||||||
17 | avoid the food they are allergic to,
which can best be done | ||||||
18 | with the support and awareness of people around them; | ||||||
