HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Food allergies affect nearly 15 million people in
3the United States, including one in 13 children; and
4 WHEREAS, Research shows that food allergies are increasing
5in the United States, particularly among children; and
6 WHEREAS, Shellfish, fish, milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts,
7soy, and wheat are the eight foods that cause the majority of
8food allergies; and
9 WHEREAS, Common symptoms of food allergies include hives,
10vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, and swelling of the
11throat; and
12 WHEREAS, More than 200,000 emergency room visits are caused
13by food allergies each year; and
14 WHEREAS, Scientists are still looking for a cure for food
15allergies; and
16 WHEREAS, Every person with a food allergy must strictly
17avoid the food they are allergic to, which can best be done
18with the support and awareness of people around them;
