| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tyrone | ||||||
4 | Kenner of Chicago, who passed away on April 27, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner had been a Chicago police officer and | ||||||
6 | community organizer when he successfully ran for alderman in | ||||||
7 | 1971; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, His efforts to rejuvenate the 3rd ward, a tough | ||||||
9 | patch of the South Side that included the Robert Taylor | ||||||
10 | public-housing high-rises, included renovations for the 47th | ||||||
11 | Street "L" platform and various anti-crime measures; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Kenner grew up in south suburban Robbins and | ||||||
13 | graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; he served | ||||||
14 | in the United States Air Force and worked as a Chicago police | ||||||
15 | officer and a boxing promoter before getting into community | ||||||
16 | work; and

17 | WHEREAS, Before his election as alderman, he was deputy | ||||||
18 | director of the Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity; in | ||||||
19 | recent years he was an assistant engineer at Cook County Jail; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner is survived by two sons, Howard and | ||||||
2 | Rev. Brian Kenner; his daughters, Renee Kenner-Clay, Kim Wash, | ||||||
3 | Tonja Simmons, and Sonja; and 26 grandchildren; therefore, be | ||||||
4 | it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
7 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone | ||||||
8 | Kenner; and be it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Tyrone Kenner as a symbol of our | ||||||
11 | sincere sympathy.
