2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gloria | ||||||
4 | Dean Harris of Chicago, who passed away on February 15, 2019; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Gloria Harris was born in Chicago to Verdell and | ||||||
7 | Willie Harris on August 30, 1952; she committed to her faith at | ||||||
8 | an early age and joined Love Fellowship Christian Center; she | ||||||
9 | attended Willa Cather Elementary School and John Marshall High | ||||||
10 | School; she received her degree in business from First Business | ||||||
11 | College; she also attended Malcolm X College, where she earned | ||||||
12 | a degree in early child development; she married Kevin Randale, | ||||||
13 | her high school sweetheart, in January 1972; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Gloria Harris worked at a VO's restaurant and Howe | ||||||
15 | School; since 2003, she had been a mentor and leader with | ||||||
16 | Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI) and Parents | ||||||
17 | Organized to Win, Educate and Renew - Policy Action Council | ||||||
18 | (POWER-PAC) Illinois; she served as a vocal advocate for early | ||||||
19 | learning at decision-making tables throughout Chicago, as well | ||||||
20 | as with the Governor's Early Learning Council; she invested | ||||||
21 | thousands of hours for the benefit of families across Chicago; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Gloria Harris enjoyed spending time with her | ||||||
2 | family; she was kind and considerate; and

3 | WHEREAS, Gloria Harris was preceded in death by her mother; | ||||||
4 | her husband, Kevin Randale; her daughters, Erica Harris-Mctoy | ||||||
5 | and Haneefa Harris; her granddaughter, Shalonza Mctoy; her | ||||||
6 | grandson, Naeem Harris Jr., her brothers, Anthony Willie Jr. | ||||||
7 | and Charles Harris; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Randale; her | ||||||
8 | father-in-law, Clyde Randale; and her stepfather, John | ||||||
9 | Gilmore; and

10 | WHEREAS, Gloria Harris is survived by her father; her | ||||||
11 | daughters, Aaisha (Byron), Lanise, Tasha, and Adelia; her sons, | ||||||
12 | Naeem, Tabari, Omar, Malcolm, Jamal, and Aaron; her brother, | ||||||
13 | Walter Harris; her sisters, Betty (Robert), Linda (Johnnie), | ||||||
14 | and Chante; her son-in-law, Alonzo Mctoy; her 26 grandchildren; | ||||||
15 | her three great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews, | ||||||
16 | and close friends; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we mourn the passing of Gloria Dean Harris and extend our | ||||||
20 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
21 | and loved her; and be it further
