2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas J. | ||||||
4 | Hanahan of Prescott, Arizona, formerly of McHenry, who passed | ||||||
5 | away on April 3, 2009; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Thomas J. Hanahan was born in Chicago; he always | ||||||
7 | lived each day to the fullest, enjoying traveling, woodworking | ||||||
8 | and carpentry, golfing, sailing, cooking (Brigidini's and | ||||||
9 | Irish Soda Bread were his specialty), and spending quality time | ||||||
10 | with his family; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, He attended St. Ignatius High School in Chicago | ||||||
12 | and graduated from the Carpenter's Apprentice School as | ||||||
13 | journeyman carpenter; he served his country from 1951 to 1953 | ||||||
14 | in the United States Navy Seabees in the Korean War; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1964 he was elected to the Illinois State | ||||||
16 | Legislature on an at-large ballot and served the citizens of | ||||||
17 | Illinois for 18 years; he is best remembered as a strong | ||||||
18 | champion for labor issues during his tenure in the legislature; | ||||||
19 | he served as the State Chair for the Young Democrats for the | ||||||
20 | State of Illinois, and was honored to serve as a delegate to | ||||||
21 | the Democratic National Convention in 1968 and again in 1972; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, He worked his way up through the ranks of the | ||||||
2 | International United Brotherhood of Carpenters with the high | ||||||
3 | point serving as Vice President of the Executive Board; he was | ||||||
4 | a 50-plus year active member of both the United Brotherhood of | ||||||
5 | Carpenters Union and the Knights of Columbus; he served as a | ||||||
6 | Grand Knight of the Thomas D. Reilly Council 10668, Hilton Head | ||||||
7 | Island, South Carolina, as a Faithful Navigator of the Hilton | ||||||
8 | Head Assembly of the 4th Degree, and as District Director for | ||||||
9 | the state of South Carolina; he was a current member of the | ||||||
10 | Prescott American Legion Post 6 and of Yavapai Council 1032 | ||||||
11 | Knights of Columbus; and

12 | WHEREAS, Thomas Hanahan is survived by his beloved wife, | ||||||
13 | Sandee (Schweighart); and his four children, Thomas
J. Hanahan | ||||||
14 | III, Karen Holycross and husband, Dan, Connie Molland and | ||||||
15 | husband, Rick, and David Hanahan; his grandchildren, Sarah Bo | ||||||
16 | Morel and husband, Brian and Lindsay Street and husband, Henry | ||||||
17 | Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Sophia Morel; his | ||||||
18 | mother, Madeline Hanahan; his brothers, Bob Hanahan and wife, | ||||||
19 | Ida and Phil Hanahan and fiancee, Carole; and his sister, | ||||||
20 | Marilyn Ferro and husband, Enrique; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
23 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of former |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
