HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Energy drinks are beverages that contain
3caffeine, sugars, and plant-based additives such as guarana,
4ginseng, and taurine; and
5 WHEREAS, Taurine, guarana, and ginseng are all found
6naturally in various food products such as seafood, grains,
7poultry, and plants; and
8 WHEREAS, The United States Food and Drug Administration and
9the U.S. Federal Trade Commission both fully regulate the
10ingredients and labeling of energy drinks, as well as oversee
11advertising of energy drinks; and
12 WHEREAS, A 16 fluid ounce energy drink contains half the
13caffeine of a same size coffeehouse coffee; and
14 WHEREAS, Energy drinks are not marketed or sold in any K-12
15schools; and
16 WHEREAS, More regulations on energy drinks would
17negatively affect many citizens in the State of Illinois; and
18 WHEREAS, The decrease in demand for energy drinks as a
19result of regulations would lead to job loss among delivery

1drivers and employees that work for the companies that produce
2energy drinks; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5oppose any increase in energy drink regulations to prevent the
6negative effects such regulations would have on the citizens
7and businesses of Illinois.
