| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Edgewater Historical Society will hold a | ||||||
3 | wreath laying at the "Young Lincoln" statue in Senn Park on | ||||||
4 | North Ridge Avenue on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 to commemorate | ||||||
5 | the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth; the April | ||||||
6 | 15th date is significant because it is the day that President | ||||||
7 | Lincoln passed away; and

8 | WHEREAS, In addition to the wreath laying ceremony, the | ||||||
9 | Edgewater Historical Society is celebrating the 200th | ||||||
10 | anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth with a year long | ||||||
11 | celebration, including a special exhibit of Lincoln | ||||||
12 | memorabilia from a private collection; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Edgewater Historical Society President Robert | ||||||
14 | Remer will speak at the wreath laying ceremony, as well as 48th | ||||||
15 | Ward Alderman Mary Ann Smith; the Senn High School ROTC Color | ||||||
16 | Guard and the Rickover Naval Academy Band will also | ||||||
17 | participate; and

18 | WHEREAS, The Senn Park site, at the corner of Clark and | ||||||
19 | Ridge Streets, is the location of the "Seven Mile house," | ||||||
20 | where, according to the descendant of the owner of the house, | ||||||
21 | Lincoln attended a caucus of local farmers during his 1860 | ||||||
22 | campaign for the presidency; the Lincoln statue, donated to the |

1 | City of Chicago by noted sculptor Charles Peck, commemorates | ||||||
2 | the historic visit; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln's life and ideas have inspired | ||||||
4 | Illinois citizens and public servants for more than 150 years; | ||||||
5 | his courage, insight, and common sense continue to inspire; the | ||||||
6 | commemorative ceremony is particularly significant as | ||||||
7 | Lincoln's 200th birthday coincided with the inauguration of | ||||||
8 | President Barack Obama from Illinois; therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
10 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
11 | salute the Edgewater Historical Society, the Senn High School | ||||||
12 | ROTC Color Guard, and the Rickover Naval Academy Band on the | ||||||
13 | occasion of the ceremony and celebration commemorating the | ||||||
14 | bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln; and be it further

15 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the Edgewater Historical Society, the Senn High | ||||||
17 | School ROTC Color Guard, and the Rickover Naval Academy Band as | ||||||
18 | symbols of our respect and esteem.
