| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin, located along the historic Fox | ||||||
| 3 | River, was officially incorporated as a city in the State of | ||||||
| 4 | Illinois on February 28, 1854; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Since that time, the City of Elgin has been a | ||||||
| 6 | leader in business, industry, education, historic | ||||||
| 7 | preservation, and environmental stewardship in the Fox Valley; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin celebrates and embraces its rich | ||||||
| 10 | diversity of cultures, religions, and architecture; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has always sought to provide | ||||||
| 12 | outstanding city services while exercising fiscal | ||||||
| 13 | responsibility; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin continues that resolve by | ||||||
| 15 | committing to the creation of a sustainable master plan that | ||||||
| 16 | will ensure a quality community for future generations; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, This comprehensive sustainability plan will | ||||||
| 18 | address issues including: transportation, community education, | ||||||
| 19 | housing and urban design, economic development, alternative | ||||||
| 20 | energy, green building and energy conservation, recycling and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | waste management, water, waste water, and stormwater | ||||||
| 2 | management, parks, green infrastructure, and a healthy | ||||||
| 3 | community; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin relies upon the many | ||||||
| 5 | contributions of its business partners, volunteers, community | ||||||
| 6 | activists, and leaders who are committed to these efforts; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Elgin is the home to School District 301 and | ||||||
| 8 | School District U-46, the second largest school district in the | ||||||
| 9 | State of Illinois; Elgin Community College, celebrating its | ||||||
| 10 | 60th anniversary; Judson University; the Gail Borden Public | ||||||
| 11 | Library; the Elgin Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; the | ||||||
| 12 | Elgin Symphony Orchestra; the Chicago Bandits; the Grand | ||||||
| 13 | Victoria Foundation; and many neighborhood organizations, | ||||||
| 14 | including the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin and | ||||||
| 15 | the Elgin Community Network; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the commitment of | ||||||
| 17 | Elgin's community partners, leaders, and volunteers, as well as | ||||||
| 18 | Elgin Mayor Ed Schock, City of Elgin Councilmembers Juan | ||||||
| 19 | Figueroa, Robert Gilliam, David Kaptain, F. John Steffen, and | ||||||
| 20 | John Walters, and the city staff; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 22 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||

| 1 | recognize February 26, 2009 as Elgin Day in the State of | ||||||
| 2 | Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to Elgin Mayor Ed Schock on behalf of the citizens of | ||||||
| 5 | Elgin, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
