HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4States Army Sergeant Michael Patrick Bartley of Barnhill, who
5gave his life defending America's freedom on January 11, 2011,
6in Mosul, Iraq; and
7 WHEREAS, Michael Patrick Bartley was born in Fairfield; he
8was the son of Robert and Rebecca Isles; and
9 WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley graduated from Fairfield
10Community High School; and
11 WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley served his country with pride
12and distinction as a sergeant with the U.S. Army's 1st
13Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the
141st Cavalry Division stationed out of Fort Hood, Texas; and
15 WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley was the recipient of numerous
16awards for meritorious service, including the Bronze Star, the
17Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge, the Army Commendation
18Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense
19Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, the
20Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on
21Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas

1Service Ribbon, and the Driver/Mechanic Badge; and
2 WHEREAS, United States and Illinois State flags throughout
3Illinois flew at half-staff from January 26-28, 2011, as a
4symbol of mourning and in honor of the sacrifice of Sgt.
5Michael Bartley; and
6 WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley will be remembered fondly for
7his love of country, his generous spirit, his patriotism, and
8his love for his family and friends; and
9 WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley dedicated his life to
10defending America's freedom and gave the ultimate sacrifice; he
11will be missed by his parents, Robert and Rebecca Isles; his
12grandmothers, Delta Lewis and Glenda Isles; his grandfather,
13Henry Bartley; his fellow soldiers; and the citizens of our
14grateful nation; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn, along with his family, friends, and the rest of a
18grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Sergeant
19Michael Patrick Bartley; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Sgt. Michael Bartley as a symbol of
