1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, This year will mark the 33rd anniversary of the | ||||||
3 | establishment and recognition of National Black Nurses Day by | ||||||
4 | the 101st United States Congress; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Blacks have long been active in the nursing | ||||||
6 | field; currently, they comprise five percent of the total | ||||||
7 | nursing population and practice in a variety of areas, | ||||||
8 | including clinical, education, administrative, research, | ||||||
9 | government, and private enterprise; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Black nurses have made significant contributions | ||||||
11 | to the nursing profession; as attention to the health care | ||||||
12 | problems of minorities and the poor increases, black nurses | ||||||
13 | can be credited for establishing an environment of quality, | ||||||
14 | service, and skill that patients have come to expect from | ||||||
15 | health care practitioners; and

16 | WHEREAS, Since February honors the contributions made to | ||||||
17 | this country by Black Americans, it is fitting that Black | ||||||
18 | nurses be recognized and honored for their outstanding | ||||||
19 | contributions to our communities and our country; therefore, | ||||||
20 | be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we declare February 2021 as Black Nurses Month in Illinois; | ||||||
3 | and be it further

4 | RESOLVED, That we urge all citizens of Illinois to | ||||||
5 | acknowledge the tireless efforts and selfless service | ||||||
6 | contributed by African American nurses every day.
