2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives would | ||||||
3 | like to congratulate the congregation of the Mulkeytown | ||||||
4 | Christian Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming | ||||||
5 | on September 18, 2018; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the oldest | ||||||
7 | Christian Church, Church of Christ in continuous existence in | ||||||
8 | the State of Illinois, having held continuous morning worship | ||||||
9 | services since its organization at the home of John and Sarah | ||||||
10 | Tinsley Kirkpatrick in 1818; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Around 1823, a meeting house was built on Four | ||||||
12 | Mile Prairie, two miles southeast of the current location of | ||||||
13 | Mulkeytown; the church was then known as "Four Mile Christian | ||||||
14 | Church"; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Mulkeytown was established as a trading post in | ||||||
16 | 1835, and both the town and the church grew when several | ||||||
17 | families migrated north from Kentucky and Tennessee; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The church continued to grow, and the current | ||||||
19 | building was constructed in 1881; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the Mother of 11 |

1 | other congregations and currently has a membership of over 200; | ||||||
2 | the church is pastored by Kurt Jensen, who is in his 16th year | ||||||
3 | of ministry; therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we congratulate the congregation of Mulkeytown Christian | ||||||
7 | Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming, and we | ||||||
8 | commend the continued good work of the church within and beyond | ||||||
9 | the community of Mulkeytown; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to Kurt Jensen and the congregation of Mulkeytown | ||||||
12 | Christian Church as an expression of our esteem and respect.
