SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
ILCON Art. III, Sec. 1

Proposes to amend the Suffrage and Elections Article of the Illinois Constitution. Changes the minimum voting age to 17 (now, 18) or any other "younger" voting age required by the United States for voting in State elections. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8 this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois
9 Constitution by changing Section 1 of Article III as follows:

SUFFRAGE AND ELECTIONS

13 SECTION 1. VOTING QUALIFICATIONS
14 Every United States citizen who has attained the age of 17
15 18 or any other younger voting age required by the United
16 States for voting in State elections and who has been a
17 permanent resident of this State for at least 30 days next
18 preceding any election shall have the right to vote at such
19 election. The General Assembly by law may establish
20 registration requirements and require permanent residence in
21 an election district not to exceed thirty days prior to an
22 election. The General Assembly by law may establish shorter
23 residence requirements for voting for President and

SCHEDULE
5 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
6 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
