HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The International Olympic Committee is currently
3 contemplating the use of facilities in the City of Chicago for
4 the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; and
5 WHEREAS, The World Shooting & Recreational Complex in
6 Sparta is a public shooting and camping facility that features
7 over 1500 acres of available space, including 250 acres of
8 water, as well as 120 trap fields extending 3.5 miles, 2
9 sporting clays courses, and 24 skeet fields; over $35 million
10 has been spent on the complex's world-class facilities; and
11 WHEREAS, The Grand American World Trap Shooting
12 Championships, held at the World Shooting & Recreational
13 Complex, have attracted thousands of competitors and tens of
14 thousands of spectators since the complex began hosting the
15 competition in August of 2006; and
16 WHEREAS, The use of the World Shooting & Recreational
17 Complex will enable the citizens of the State of Illinois as a
18 whole to benefit from the economic stimulus that the Olympics
19 provide to local businesses; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE

1 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the International
2 Olympic Committee to consider the use of the World Shooting &
3 Recreational Complex in Sparta for Olympics shooting events in
4 the event that the City of Chicago is picked as the host city
5 for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the International Olympic Committee.
