Bill Title: Amends the Military Code of Illinois and the Service Member's Employment Tenure Act. Provides that a person in military service enrolled in any Illinois public university, college, or community college who is unable, due to being placed into a period of military service, to attend classes or submit coursework shall not receive a failing grade for examinations or coursework missed during his or her military service. Provides that the faculty and administrative officials of the higher education institution shall make available to the person an equivalent opportunity to make up any examination or coursework he or she may have missed due to his or her military service.

Amends the Military Code of Illinois and the Service Member's Employment Tenure Act. Provides that a person in military service enrolled in any Illinois public university, college, or community college who is unable, due to being placed into a period of military service, to attend classes or submit coursework shall not receive a failing grade for examinations or coursework missed during his or her military service. Provides that the faculty and administrative officials of the higher education institution shall make available to the person an equivalent opportunity to make up any examination or coursework he or she may have missed due to his or her military service.

1 AN ACT concerning veterans.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Military Code of Illinois is amended by
5changing Section 30.30 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 1805/30.30)
7 Sec. 30.30. School attendance and tuition. Any person in
8federal active duty under Title 10 of the United States Code,
9or in training or duty under Title 32 of the United States
10Code, or in State Active Duty, pursuant to the orders of the
11Governor has the right to receive a full monetary credit or
12refund for funds paid to any Illinois public university,
13college, or community college if the person is placed into a
14period of military service with the State of Illinois pursuant
15to the orders of the Governor and is unable to attend the
16university or college for a period of 7 or more days.
17Withdrawal from the course shall not impact upon the final
18grade point average of the person. If any person who has been
19enrolled in any Illinois public university, college, or
20community college is unable to process his or her enrollment
21for the upcoming term, he or she shall have any and all late
22penalties and or charges set aside, including any and all late
23processing fees for books, lab fees, and all items that were

1not in place because the person was engaged in military service
2and was unable to enroll in the courses at the appropriate
3time.
4 Any person in federal active duty under Title 10 of the
5United States Code, or in training or duty under Title 32 of
6the United States Code, or in State Active Duty, pursuant to
7the orders of the Governor, enrolled in any Illinois public
8university, college, or community college who is unable, due to
9being placed into a period of military service, to attend
10classes or submit coursework shall not receive a failing grade
11for examinations or coursework missed during his or her
12military service. The faculty and administrative officials of
13the higher education institution shall make available to the
14person an equivalent opportunity to make up any examination or
15coursework he or she may have missed due to his or her military
16service.
17 The rights set forth in this Section are in addition to
18any rights afforded to persons in military service with the
19State of Illinois pursuant to the orders of the Governor under
20the policies of an Illinois public university, college, or
21community college.

5the United States or the Governor has the right to receive a

10and is unable to attend the university or college for a period
