Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that the 5 State-funded retirement systems may not enter into any new contract, or extend or renew any existing contract, under which System funds are used to compensate a contract lobbyist. In the Downstate Teachers Article, provides that the board of trustees of the system has the power to appoint employees and obtain actuarial, legal, clerical, audit, medical, or other services. Effective immediately.

| 1 | AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.

| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by changing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | Sections 2-138, 14-135.09, 15-169, and 18-145 and by adding | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | Section 16-180.1 as follows:

| 8 | Sec. 2-138. To hire employees.

| 21 | General Assembly in the form passed by the General Assembly, | ||||||
| 22 | then the board may select the counsel of their choice.
