Bill Title: Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. In cases of potential sexual abuse or sexual assault by a member of school personnel, prohibits an employee of the school district from conducting a formal investigation or interview of a student unless a local law enforcement officer or a sexual abuse or sexual assault specialist is present. Provides that nothing in the provision prohibits a school district employee from conducting informal investigations of possible cases of sexual abuse or sexual assault. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning education.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
34-18.60 as follows:
(105 ILCS 5/34-18.60 new)
Sec. 34-18.60. Investigations; sexual abuse or sexual
assault. In cases of potential sexual abuse or sexual assault
by a member of school personnel, an employee of the school
district may not conduct a formal investigation or interview of
a student unless a local law enforcement officer or a sexual
abuse or sexual assault specialist is present. Nothing in this
Section prohibits a school district employee from conducting
informal investigations of possible cases of sexual abuse or
sexual assault.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
