Bill Title: Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. In cases of potential sexual abuse or sexual assault by a member of school personnel, prohibits an employee of the school district from conducting a formal investigation or interview of a student unless a local law enforcement officer or a sexual abuse or sexual assault specialist is present. Provides that nothing in the provision prohibits a school district employee from conducting informal investigations of possible cases of sexual abuse or sexual assault. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
534-18.60 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/34-18.60 new)
7 Sec. 34-18.60. Investigations; sexual abuse or sexual
8assault. In cases of potential sexual abuse or sexual assault
9by a member of school personnel, an employee of the school
10district may not conduct a formal investigation or interview of
11a student unless a local law enforcement officer or a sexual
12abuse or sexual assault specialist is present. Nothing in this
13Section prohibits a school district employee from conducting
14informal investigations of possible cases of sexual abuse or
15sexual assault.
16 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17becoming law.
